New site helps consumers understand ingredients

A new Web site, LabelWatch.com, is designed to help consumers understand ingredients listed on food packaging.

The Web site allows users to compare favorite foods by providing information about the additives, ingredients and nutritional facts in each product. It has a color-coded. It was created using information from sources such as The National Institutes of Health, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, the Food and Drug Administration and the Food Standards Agency U.K.

The site is free, and by registering users also may create customized shopping lists made up of best brand-name products for themselves and their families.
